Statistics Canada 2006

The latest Statistics Canada information was released.

Canada's population rose 5% not due to birth but immigration. The average number of , in is a family is down to 1.5.

Markham's population increased 20,000 people, to approximately 262,000. People immigrated from China and Hong Kong according to the data.

Richmond Hill saw some growth to approximately 162,000.

Brampton also grew again, mostly due to immigration from India.

Since the trend for population increase is from immigration and not birth, is there something the governments should be doing to assist people coming to Canada?
